The body of a boy who fell from a tinny on Lake Mulwala is believed to have been recovered at Kyffins Bay late on December 15.
NSW Police confirmed that they recovered a body at 6:30 PM in Kyffins Bay on Thursday, just north of the Victorian-NSW border.
While NSW Police announced they were yet to formally identify the body, it is believed to be the body of 16-year-old Jack Bird.
The announcement comes after a large-scale search effort conducted by Victoria and NSW police after the boy went missing on Sunday when a tinny carrying two teenagers capsized on Lake Mulwala.
Specialist rescue divers, VicPol water police, NSW Marine Area Command and Corowa VRA were all involved in the five-day long search.
GoTafe made a touching tribute for Jack Bird following the discovery of the body.
Having recently won a gold medal at the WorldSkills Regional Turning Competition and spending sixmonths at the Goulburn Valley Engineering Works, GoTafe said that Jack’s friends and colleagues said he was an ambitious and driven student “dedicated to his craft.”
“In his time with us, Jack showed incredible talent and passion for engineering,” GoTafe wrote.
Staff and students were described as being deeply saddened following the incident.
“Our thoughts are with Jack’s family, friends, classmates, trainers and workmates during this incredibly tough time.”
