Crews worked to contain the blaze within the frame of the tower, stopping it before it spread to power lines above.
“CFA crews monitored the incident and supported personnel to extinguish the fire safely,” a CFA spokesperson said.
The blaze was brought under control about 2am, but crews remained on-site until at least 4am.
Commander Paul Summons, from District 8, commended firefighters for their efforts.
“Intervention at the scene was timely because if the tower had collapsed on the lines it could have impacted a larger area of power,” Commander Summons said.
Investigators will probe the cause of the fire today.
Power in the area was not impacted.
