MELBOURNE taking on Collingwood in front of a packed house won’t be the only war being waged at the MCG.
The battle to find a cure for motor neurone disease will also take centre stage with an army of sporting celeberaties taking part in the Big Freeze 3 to raise funds to help find a cure.
DISEASE STARTING TO BITE FOOTY GREAT NEALE
Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury and Melbourne captain Nathan Jones are standing shoulder to shoulder with former Melbourne coach and Essendon great and MND sufferer Neale Daniher to urge all Victorians to dig deep.
While the captains will lead their teams on the ground, sporting champions and favourites will slide to a chilly splash before the game to draw attention to the efforts of Fight MND.
The foundation and its army of volunteers are attempting to fast-track research into the horrific disease that is slowly killing Daniher and hundreds of other Australians.
The line-up of sporting greats to take the plunge includes basketballer Andrew Gaze, ice skater Steve Bradbury, tennis player Lleyton Hewitt, marathon runner Steve Moneghetti, cricketer Adam Gilchrist, netballer Sharelle McMahon, pole vaulter Steve Hooker and aerial skier Alisa Camplin.
The Federal Government has come to the party with a pledge of up to $2 million to match public donations during this year’s campaign, so now its up to all of us to give what we can to enable more MND sufferers to join clinical trials in the hunt for a cure.
Big Freeze at the ’G starts at 2pm before the game kicks off.
