A grassfire threat has been reduced after residents were urged to evacuate from their homes as the blaze spread across Melbourne’s northern fringe.
An emergency warning was issued for the towns of Beveridge and Eden Park at 1pm on Wednesday with the fire travelling from Grandview Rd in a southerly direction towards Glenburnie Rd.
“People located between Grandview Rd and Glenburnie Rd could be impacted,” it read.
“Leaving immediately is the safest option, before conditions become too dangerous.
“Conditions may change and get worse very quickly.
“Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.”
It’s understood 26 CFA units and two firefighter aircrafts battled the blaze and was bought under control within two hours.
3AW caller Michael said the fire was about 1km from his house.
“It’s at the back of our property, looks like it’s going into the hills ... and if it gets in there we’re in trouble,” he said.
“It’s quite black with smoke and it’s going into trees.”
It comes as temperatures soar across Melbourne with the mercury expected to hit 31C on Wednesday and 35C on Thursday and Friday.
