Bev Brock, the longtime partner of motor racing legend Peter Brock, has passed away after a brave battle with cancer.
Brock, 77, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer two years ago and died at her Melbourne home on Sunday morning.
She was a key player in Peter Brock’s incredible motorsport career for almost 30 years and was a fixture at racetracks and in pit lanes around the country when he raced.
She and Peter were a couple from 1977 to 2005 when they announced they had separated. They never married.
Bev was born on January 15, 1947 just outside of Perth. She was one of seven children.
She studied education, going on to teach science and home economics.
With her first husband, James McIintosh, she had a son, James and later had two more children, Robert and Alexandra with Peter.
Jame Brock released a family statement via social media on Sunday announcing his mother’s passing.
“Bev was a dedicated parent, always making time to make a costume for a play or help out on a school camp,” the statement read.
“She dedicated her life to helping Peter’s racing career taking on multiple roles, all met with skill, smarts and purpose.
“Bev was also involved with multiple charities earning her an Order of Australia in 2016.
“Over the last few years she focused her time and passion on The Skyline Foundation, Melbourne Rotary, public speaking and her ever expanding family.
“She leaves behind her three children, seven cherished grandchildren and a host of loved ones she wrapped into her life as though they were her own.
“Her loss will be immense as her presence, wisdom and support can never be matched.”
Former Herald Sun motoring writer, Paul Gover, remembered Bev as a being a huge part of Peter Brock’s sporting success, and also paid tribute to her as a great friend who cared for others.
“Universally known as ‘Bevo’ throughout the motorsport world, (she) was the rock who anchored the legendary Peter Brock for close to 30 years,” Gover wrote in a tribute for the Auto Action platform.
“She was a constant presence at racetracks across the country, often while lap charting Peter’s races in the early days and then organising the giant signing sessions for his fans in the later days.
“She fought her cancer diagnosis for two years, maintaining close contact with her giant circle of friends and offering advice and support despite her own illness.”
