BANDIDOS motorcycle club members have been left devastated by the death of a mate at a Melbourne clubhouse.

Patched members were seen consoling one another at the club’s Brunswick stronghold in the aftermath of the death.

It is believed the man had died of a bullet wound. Police are not looking for anyone else over the tragedy.

Police were called at 7.20am on Monday after reports of a shot heard from inside the Weston St building.

Members began arriving soon after, clearly devastated at what had happened.

Detectives and forensic officers were at the scene for much of the day as the building remained cordoned off.

Police said the man had not yet been formally identified, but his death was not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The Bandidos are regarded as one of the strongest of Australia’s outlaw motorcycle gangs, and are allied to the Bandidos in the US, founded in Texas in the 1960s.

A hit was attempted on former club strongman Toby Mitchell close to the Weston St clubhouse in November, 2011. Mitchell was hit outside Doherty’s Gym next door when two gunmen opened fire. He staggered 100m before falling in the car park of the nearby Barkly Square shopping centre.

A stray bullet from the shooting struck a car with two children inside.

Three men were shot outside the clubhouse in a drive-by attack in April last year.

That incident has in recent days been publicly linked to the rival Comanchero gang.
