Melbourne nightclub figures facing drug charges in Bali have again been questioned by police.

William Cabantog and David Van Iersel were on Monday led from their cell to Denpasar police station for questioning — this time separately.

Handcuffed to other prisoners, they were barefoot and in orange jumpsuits with Mr Cabantog’s face wrapped in what appeared to be cloth.

Asked why they were questioned separately, Denpasar narcotics unit chief Mikel Hutabarat said: “Just to complete the dossier”.

“There are a number of statements from the suspect(s) that are considered lacking so further checks will be carried out,” he said.

“We have not sent the file to the prosecutor.”

The pair face up to 12 years’ prison after being arrested in Canggu’s Lost City nightclub on July 19.

Mr Van Iersel’s lawyer last week flagged a bid to have the 38-year-old assessed for drug rehabilitation, a move which could have his charge downgraded and the maximum sentence reduced to four years’ prison.

The formal request has not yet been submitted.

But Mr Hutabarat said yesterday that the assessment would determine “the role of the suspect — whether he is a user, dealer or courier” and would not necessarily reduce the severity of the charge.

“Don’t interpret the assessment to ease the sentence,” he said.

Authorities are still waiting for the results of blood tests, after urine tests returned positive readings for narcotics.
