A BABY has died in hospital after reportedly waiting almost two hours for treatment.
The coroner will investigate the tragedy, which took place at Sunshine Hospital earlier this month.
Western Health Chief Medical Officer Paul Eleftheriou said the baby was assessed by a triage nurse after being brought to the emergency department.

The baby’s mother was then asked to wait with the baby in a paediatric waiting room, he said.
“The baby was later transferred to the paediatric area of the emergency department for assessment and care,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the baby’s condition deteriorated rapidly and a short time later, sadly the baby died.”
Dr Eleftheriou would not comment on reports the baby waited almost two hours for treatment.
“Western Health extends its deepest sympathies to the family for their loss and support has been offered to the family,” he said.
“The circumstances surrounding the baby’s death will be formally reviewed and the matter has been referred to the coroner.”
