Sports fans will get more cut price ticket options at next year’s Australian Open as capacity crowds return to the Melbourne Grand Slam for the first time since 2020.
Popular “Ground Passes’’ to the January event will be expanded, with two new entry level tickets introduced for the first time.
The Herald Sun can reveal the cost of Ground Passes for week one of the event will start at $49 for adults, frozen at 2018 prices, if purchased by the end of November.
Adult ground passes – which grant entry to all outside courts, Kia and John Cain Arenas and the child friendly AO Ballpark – will drop from this year’s price of $29 to $19 for week two next year if bought under early bird rates.
Kids Ground Passes will start at $10 for week one, rise to $15 for the middle weekend and drop to $5 for the second week at Melbourne Park.
A seven day adult Ground Pass providing access to all of week two will be released for $99 and $15 for kids, when tickets go on sale next Wednesday.
And a “Finals Festival Ground Pass” will be sold for the first time, granting access to men’s and women’s finals weekend from $39 for adults and $9 for children.
Australian Open director Craig Tiley said the new passes would make the event “more fan friendly and accessible’’, especially in week two “where we are increasing content for fans of all ages.”
“There’s no question that it’s one of the best value sporting tickets in the world and it’s not increased since 2018,’’ he said.
“There are so many great matches on the outside courts, so many different social food and dining experiences it’s the perfect option for a great day out for friends and families.”
The starting price for a seat in Rod Laver Arena to see the world’s best players do battle will be $69 for day and $79 for night sessions – $7 and $14 more than in 2020 when capacity crowds were last allowed.
The cheapest ticket to the men’s and women’s finals will be $229.
“There are some small increases in our arena pricings, which I think you’ll find is the case with most sports and entertainment events,’’ Mr Tiley said.
“What I can say is that we know there’s a lot of pent up demand for major sports and entertainment after the past few challenging years, and we’re excited about delivering an event that’s back to pre-pandemic levels.’’
Early bird prices will be available when seats go on sale next week, until midnight on November 30.
From December 1, adult Ground Passes will rise to $59 for week one, $75 for the middle weekend and $29 for week two, except for the public holiday on 26 January when they will be $35.
Kids Ground Passes will rise to $15 for the middle weekend and on the Australia Day public holiday on 26 January.
The Australian Open will run from January 16-29.
