Are these Victoria’s funniest street names?

SESAME Street, Lois Lane and Fashion Parade? One thing’s for sure — Victoria’s town planners sure have a sense of humour.

The Sesame Street sign in Glen Waverley is proving popular with light fingered fans of Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Bert and Ernie. The street sign keeps getting stolen.

SESAME Street, Lois Lane and Wisteria Lane?

One thing’s for sure — Victoria’s town planners sure have a sense of humour.

Got a funny street name in your area? Tell us below.

LOIS LANE

Melbourne is blessed with not one but two streets bearing the name of Superman’s love interest and intrepid reporter: one at Yarraville and another at Dandenong.

She’d be right at home in Melbourne.

MARRIAGE ROAD

Just off the Nepean Highway, you reach a fork in the road.

It’s at Marriage Road, Brighton East.

You can commit to the turn or just take Separation Street at Fairfield.

TITTYBONG STREET, QUAMBATOOK

There were no appropriate pictures for this one.

SESAME STREET

Can you tell us how to get there?

Come and play.
Come and play.

FEAR STREET

Don’t get bogged down in Fear St, Richmond.

Opt for Courageous St, Taylors Lakes. Or at least give it a shot at Hope St (no excuses, Melbourne has five of them).

Emo cow .....

EMO RD

Emo — short for emotional hardcore and the name of a thoroughfare at Malvern East.

No emo cows allowed, though. It’s a breach of council policy.

THRUSH STREET

When you share the same address as an unfortunate medical ailment.

Inexplicably, this is happening at three locations in Victoria: South Morang, Norlane and Werribee.

If anyone asks tell them it is named after the bird.

FASHION PARADE

Broady is home to a very special kind of fashion parade.

Forget Milan. The traditionally working class suburb of Broadmeadows — once maligned for residents wearing moccasins outside the home — has moved from crimes against fashion to hosting its very own fashion parade. Respect.

BATMAN AVENUE

Who wouldn’t want to live in a street named after a fictional superhero?

Although this city avenue was named after John Batman, the founder of Melbourne.

BROADWAY

A Reservoir shopping strip that’s got a bit less razzle dazzle than the New York version, but it is lovable nonetheless.

HIGH STREET ROAD

A Mt Waverley address with an identity that’s at the crossroads.

NICE PLACE

A Point Cook location well known for its modesty.

TENNIS COURT

So a town planner at Mornington has a sense of humour.

Y STREET

Y Street in Ashburton. But why?

SOUTH PARK DRIVE

Meet some friends of mine.
Meet some friends of mine.

Just head down to Dandenong South and have yourself a time.

ERNST WANKE RD

Ever passed this stretch in Narre Warren and thought, ‘say, what’?

According to the Casey Cardinia library, German settler Ernst Gottlob Wanke (1823-1897) was a medical student who came to Australia as a ship’s doctor. His family were remembered as hardworking migrants who were successful farmers. According to a report in the Berwick Star, the family pronounce the name as ‘wan-kee’ and remain unimpressed by other interpretations.

WISTERIA LANE

They’re desperate to move to Caroline Springs.
They’re desperate to move to Caroline Springs.

IT’S a real-life suburban street inspired by the fictitious lives of the TV show Desperate Housewives.

The properties built inside the gated community at Caroline Springs, on Melbourne’s western fringe, have been designed with an American look.

GRYLLS ST

This Brunswick thoroughfare is humorous not so much for its name but for the teddy bear some local clown mounted to its sign.

So meet Bear Grylls, wrestling with the wilds of inner suburban Melbourne.
