Anti-vaxxers attempting to infiltrate NDIS services through network of non-vaccinated support workers

Victoria’s vulnerable disabled population is being targeted by anti-vaxxers attempting to infiltrate services provided by the taxpayer-funded scheme.

What's fuelling Aussies' COVID vaccine scepticism?

Vulnerable NDIS clients are being targeted by anti-vaxxers, with activists trying to set up a network of non-Covid vaccinated disability support workers to provide services under the taxpayer-funded scheme.

The prominent conspiracy theorist behind the non-vaccinated NDIS scheme, Michael Simms, has also bragged about forging his own digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate, raising concerns from Federal authorities.

Mr Simms - aka Mykaphobic - was one of the key organisers of the Millions March Against Mandatory Vaccination protests around the country last month.

In a “Call to Action” to anti-vax followers on the encrypted Telegram service on Monday, Mr Simms posted: “If you are a disability support worker who doesn’t want the vaccine or if you’re a client or a guardian of someone receiving NDIS funding and you don’t want carers who are unvaccinated please send us a message immediately”.

After a response from a woman claiming to be a disability support worker who “will not be coerced in to this bio weapon”, Mr Simms provides a link to web page encouraging her to print and carry a copy of her legal rights.

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee does not currently recommended mandatory Covid vaccination for aged care and disability workers.

A spokeswoman for NDIS Minister Linda Reynolds said the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission had advised providers and their workers to ensure discussions about the COVID-19 vaccine with the people they support were based on accurate, factual and unbiased information.

“It is completely inappropriate to put some of the most vulnerable members of our community at risk,” she said.

“The NDIS Commission has a range of powers available to respond to possible breaches by a provider or a worker. The NDIS Commission can take complaints from anyone about issues with an NDIS provider’s conduct.”

Victorian Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan said that with more than 33,000 Covid vaccine doses delivered during the state’s disability and aged care workforce blitz, it was clear the workforce wants to protect their residents, regardless of the influence anti-vaxxers were trying to have.

“There are a small group of people running a completely irresponsible anti-vaccination agenda,” Mr Donnellan said.

“The science is clear, vaccinations save lives and no amount of fear, rumours and false information will change that.”

In another encrypted post Mr Simms shares an image of a fake Federal Government digital Covid-19 certificate including his own details stating: “Anyone else that wants one without attending a vaccination clinic just let me know.

“PS for the sake of the police and government I’m kidding.”

Minister Reynold’s spokeswoman said Covid-19 digital certificates had a number of features to safeguard against fraudulent activity, including Coat of Arms watermark, an animated tick, a live clock showing the current date and time and that each certificate will display a unique document number.

“The Government takes the integrity of the Australian Immunisation Register and the Medicare system very seriously,” she said.

“Someone claiming to create fraudulent COVID-19 digital certificates does not mean systems or personal data have been compromised.

“In line with standard practice, whenever the agency becomes aware of fraudulent activity, it works with relevant authorities to investigate and resolve matters. This could include assistance from the Australian Federal Police, if required.”
