AN ANGRY bank customer who turned himself into a human fireball after waiting too long to be served has pleaded guilty to a string of charges.

Nur Islam, 22, is still significantly injured from the November 2016 incident in which he suffered burns to more than 60 per cent of his body.

He appeared at the Victorian County Court via videolink today because being transported to court from prison, where he has been on remand since his arrest, still causes him too much pain.

Islam pleaded guilty to 11 charges over the horror incident that sparked pandemonium inside a Springvale Commonwealth Bank when he set himself alight.

The charges included four counts of arson with the intent to endanger life.

Islam pleaded guilty following successful negotiations with prosecutors that saw 97 charges dropped.

He was due to stand trial in the County Court on 108 charges.

Graphic CCTV footage of the incident showed Islam pour petrol around the bank, then stand in a puddle of fuel and set himself alight.

Prosecutors have previously alleged Islam had gone to the bank to withdraw his entire savings, $442, and became angry at how long he had to wait.

He walked to a nearby petrol station and bought 11 litres of fuel he later used to set fire to himself and the bank.

At the time the fire was lit 14 employees and 23 customers were inside the bank, with 26 suffering injuries.

Islam had denied intending to hurt anyone inside the bank.
