Thousands of extra Victorian households will be able to claim a rebate on solar batteries after the Andrews Government expanded its schemed to cover another 143 postcodes.
There are now a total of 247 locations across Victoria where households can apply for a rebate of up to $4838.
More than 70 per cent of the new postcodes are in regional Victoria and includes centres such as Bendigo, Shepparton, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.
The government has been gradually expanding the number of locations where people can apply for the scheme so that authorities can reliably add the new batteries to the power grid.
Growth areas with large numbers of solar-powered homes have been targeted.
So far, about 359 applications have been approved since the scheme began in July last year and 219 of these have been installed.
Solar Homes Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said 35 per cent of Victorian households were now eligible.
“Solar batteries will help local families store energy from the sun, reduce their reliance on the grid, and save money,” she said.
“This is a great opportunity for households that already have solar panels to capitalise on their solar systems and take greater control of their energy bills.”
It is estimated an 11kwH battery could help save $650 a year on household electricity bills.
The scheme will also be expanded to larger controlled batteries, microgrids and virtual power plants in July.
