‘Amused, confused and angry’: Family baffled by delivery driver’s bizarre grocery stunt

A family from Melbourne’s southwest were left stunned when footage emerged of a delivery driver dumping their groceries on the side of the road.

A Werribee mum said she’s been left “equally amused, confused and angry” after video emerged of a delivery driver allegedly dumping her groceries on the side of the road, just minutes away from her house.

Kate, who didn’t wish to reveal her last name, ordered $100 worth of groceries from the Woolworths website on Sunday afternoon as she had run out of time to head down to the shops.

She opted for the supermarket giant’s rapid one-hour delivery service, which cost her an additional $15 and involved a rideshare delivery partner dropping off her order at her house.

Her order, which contained groceries for dinner and items for school lunches, came some time later, with a “flustered” delivery driver arriving at the house just after 5.30pm.

Kate told the Herald Sun the first sign something felt off was when the driver “sped up” the driveway and called her at the same time, despite her already being outside.

“He seemed very flustered and rushed. He opened his boot which was full of empty pizza boxes and take away drink containers everywhere then realised the shopping was in his back seat,” she said.

After giving the mum her order, it’s alleged the driver almost left without taking a photo to prove he had given the family their order.

“Then when he was leaving he reversed really quickly into a bush we have on the drive,” she said.

“He didn’t stop and skidded off really fast out the drive. We were kind of in shock at how rushed it all was and his bad driving but didn’t think more of it.”

It was only when a video emerged on the local community Facebook page hours later Kate realised the reason why the driver was in such a rush.

The video – which was captured by another local – shows a small pile of groceries laying on the side of the road, while a delivery driver bends over them.

“Mate, I’m watching you drop that rubbish there, what is it? Shouldn’t it be going to a customer?” the man recording the video asked the driver.

The driver confirmed the order was going to a customer before bringing one of the Woolworths bags closer to the camera.

“There’s not even a house here, what are you doing?” the man said in response.

The delivery driver then proceeded to pick up the order, before putting it back into the car. He then apologised before getting back into his vehicle.

After viewing the video, Kate said it made sense why the driver was flustered and in a hurry upon meeting her.

“Where he was dumping the groceries was directly in front of my house. He had obviously driven past my driveway – about 50 metres and was too lazy to turn back so decided to dump them,” she said.

“(That was) until he was confronted by the passer-by then he loaded groceries back into the car and delivered them to me.”

A Woolworths spokesperson said the supermarket giant is investigating the matter.

“We’re concerned to see this has happened and have taken immediate action to follow up with our delivery partner,” they said.
