An alleged drink driver narrowly avoided a serious accident after her car got stuck on train tracks in Melbourne’s northwest.
Police were called to Essendon train station at midnight this morning after a 60-year-old Essendon woman lost control of her car while driving in the train station’s car park.
The woman had a close call with an oncoming train, which was forced to come to an abrupt stop after the driver saw the vehicle on the tracks.
Sergeant Tim Fletcher said it was miraculous the woman wasn’t hurt.
“Dangerous and drink driving affects the wider community and it is incredibly lucky that no one was injured in this incident,” he said.
The woman underwent an evidentiary breath test at Moonee Ponds station, returning an alleged reading of 0.105.
Her licence was suspended and the car towed. She is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and careless driving offences.
