ALDI SUPERMARKET has taken extreme measures to stop sticky-fingered thieves from stealing its honey.
A jar of Manuka honey worth just $9.99 has been photographed locked in a hard plastic case at ALDI Braybrook in Melbourne’s west.
An ALDI Australia spokeswoman said the reason for the security measure was to “help minimise theft and loss to our business”.
The German supermarket chain are not the only store putting cheap goods under lock and key.
Reservoir Kmart last year made headlines for locking Cadbury chocolate blocks in DVD-style security cases.
And Preston Woolworths also secured their honey to keep people from bagging a pot of the Bee Products range, worth about $25 a jar.
Manuka honey is known for its hefty price tag with a top-of-the-line jar costing up to $120 for 500g.
From easing eczema to curing gingivitis, the product is believed to have a large number of health benefits.
Other items being protected from shoplifters include batteries, razors, beauty products and printer ink.
