An Albert Park ‘iso garden’ copped a little more manure than expected this morning, when a so-called ‘poo jogger’ was caught on camera defecating in a garden bed.
A man, dressed for a jog, was caught on CCTV at 6.49am on Wednesday morning pulling down his running tights and appearing to defecate on a kerbside garden.
Albert Park resident Shayne Whiteley maintains the small public garden that abuts his property, and had previously installed the surveillance camera to catch green-thumbed thieves stealing plants.
Mr Whiteley told the Herald Sun he was completely shocked to see the footage as he’d been during a lot of gardening during lockdown.
“I was just disgusted, mainly because the local kids all play in the little fairy garden and have a great time,” he said.
“There’s a public toilet 50 metres away, and the bloke didn’t even wash his hands.
“I had to grab a shovel and clean it up, because the kids are in the garden all the time.
“At first I was grossed out but now we’re laughing about it – my wife hasn’t stopped laughing all day.”
The footage shows the man, dressed in what appears to be 2XU running tights and a down jacket, place his mobile phone and drink bottle down on the garden bed in preparation.
He then stands on the cobblestones in the gutter, rolls down his pants and rests against some upstanding plants while he appears to defecate.
He rolls his tights back up and continues on his merry way.
The garden is right on a busy road, and Mr Whiteley said he couldn’t believe someone would choose to relieve themself in such a public place.
“We’re near a busy main road and a very popular running track, so it’s so bizarre that he’d choose that spot,” he said.
“You hear these stories and you laugh about it wondering why they do such a thing, so it’s strange to have it in your front yard.
“The thing that disappointed me the most is that we take such good care of that garden, myself and other locals have bought plants to fix it up into a fairy garden.
“So for someone to do this is annoying, but we’re seeing the funny side too.”
The inner-city leafy green locale of Albert Park is the latest in a series of suburbs plagued by poo joggers, with celebrity publicist Roxy Jacenko recently outing a serial defecator in the swank Sydney suburb of Paddington.
