AFL Women’s star Daisy Pearce is set to make history as radio station Triple M’s first female footy caller.
“I don’t know what insights I’ll bring specifically because I’m a woman,” Pearce, a marquee Demons player, told the Herald Sun.
“I guess different people bring different perspectives. I have no doubt more women will get these opportunities in future.”
She will work alongside AFL legends Chris Judd and Nathan Brown, and Paul Roos.
Her first call will be the Carlton-Gold Coast game tonight.
Daisy Pearce is a once in a generation footballer but few would have seen her play
“Daisy will be great,” Brown said. “I’ve enjoyed watching her play footy this year. She’s got a great knowledge of the game, and will bring a different perspective of someone who’s playing at the top level in the women’s competition.”
Pearce is the first woman in the commentary box in Triple M’s 21 years of calling football.
Lee Simon, Triple M’s national executive producer football, said: “Daisy is fearless. She has incredible footy smarts, reads the play really well, and knows how to communicate that.”
Asked what she notices most when watching footy, Pearce said: “I really enjoy the work that’s done up the ground. You might only see the goal, but I love pegging it back to an unselfish act, or smart running, or something that creates space for another team mate.
“That always catches my eye.”
