14-year-old girl charged after bungled carjacking attempt
A teenage carjacker who allegedly tried to steal a woman’s car keys in Collingwood on Friday night, but was forced to flee when she couldn’t start the engine.

Police have charged a 14-year-old girl following an attempted aggravated carjacking in Collingwood last night.
The girl was arrested after allegedly pulling a knife on a female driver and trying to steal her car.
The victim told police that she was allegedly approached by the teenager after she parked her car outside an apartment building in Collingwood about midnight on Friday night.
The alleged carjacker grabbed the victim’s keys and got into her car but couldn’t start it.
The victim then fought back, retrieving her keys from the teen who then fled along Stanley St.
Police patrolled the area and found the teenager hiding under a car on Wellington St.
Stanley Street resident Rolf Forster heard “some yelling” before police arrived at the scene of the crime.
“I’ve lived here 12 years and there’s the odd raucous celebration going on and it’s usually nothing,” he said.
“More usually you hear groups of people walking down the street laughing.”
Other neighbours told the Sunday Herald Sun they heard “screaming” with one male saying “call the cops”.
The victim suffered a minor injury to her hand as a result of the bungled carjacking.

The teen was interviewed by police in relation aggravated carjacking, assault and weapon offences.
She has been charged with attempted aggravated carjacking, recklessly causing injury and assault with a weapon.
She is expected to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
