Victoria’s youth crime crisis has continued to escalate with a pack of teens arrested overnight for a burglary in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs.

Five teenagers have been arrested following a burglary in Melbourne’s southeast in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The group allegedly stole a car from a Chelsea home about 12.20am on Thursday.

Officers were able to track the allegedly stolen Ford Escape wagon as it made its way towards Bangholme and Mordialloc and eventually to a reserve in Parkdale.

Police deployed stop sticks around the car to stop any potential getaway, only to give chase when the teens decided to make a run for it on foot.

Two 14-year-old girls, from Seaford and Bonbeach, were given a warning.

Three others; a 13-year-old Cranbourne North girl; a 14-year-old Carrum Downs girl and a 14-year-old Chelsea girl were released on summons.

Victoria Police has increased personnel and resources to tackle rampant teen crime.

Police have been deploying an additional 70 officers on top of existing patrols every night until dawn as part of Operation Trinity.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said they had made more than 1400 arrests with an “overwhelming majority” of the offending being done by children.

Police and community frustration has grown in recent weeks as the youth crime crisis continues to ravage the state.

A group of six teenagers were captured driving erratically and at high speed in a stolen Jeep before trainee doctor William Taylor, 28, was killed in Burwood last week.

The 17-year-old accused of driving the car was released on bail following the incident, only to break his court ordered curfew 36 hours later.

The boy faced a children’s court on Wednesday and had his bail revoked.
