WAYNE Carey has been kicked out of the US and sent packing back to Australia.
The King landed in Los Angeles this week, but did not make it any further than the airport, where he was turned around by US immigration authorities.
The disgraced former North Melbourne football star was flown home this weekend on a Qantas flight after his holiday plans were cancelled.
It is believed the American rejection relates to Carey being found guilty last year of assaulting Miami police following a row with his then girlfriend, Kate Neilson.
The rejection has devastated Carey, who has often used Las Vegas as a sanctuary from turmoil in his private life and controversies in Australia.
Carey was stopped by immigration officials at Los Angeles and told he would not be allowed to enter the country.
Carey caught the next available flight back to Australia and is believed to have landed yesterday.
The US rejection is the latest incident in Carey's turbulent life.
He recently called police to his Gold Coast home as Ms Neilson, his ex-fiance, hurled abuse at him for "cheating" and locking her out of their house.
Carey and Ms Neilson's tempestuous relationship became a criminal matter in Miami in October 2007 after Carey was arrested for breaking a wine glass in Ms Neilson's face and attacking police.
He pleaded guilty and received two years' probation, 50 hours of community service, anger management classes and was ordered to pay $700 to a police charity fund.
Carey's US lawyer, Richard Sharpstein, said his client, whom he called a national hero, had not received a conviction despite pleading guilty and would be free to travel.
"His record will be clean," he said. "This is not a criminal conviction, never will be. He will be free to travel to the US or anywhere he wants to."
But Uncle Sam has now said no more.
In Victoria, Carey was convicted and fined $2000 over a tussle with police after he called them to his Port Melbourne apartment in January last year.
He also had a drink-driving conviction from 1992 and a 1996 conviction for indecent assault for groping a woman outside a city nightclub.
This year, his brother, Kevin "Dick" Carey, has been charged with attempting to possess a border-controlled precursor and attempting to pre-traffic a border-controlled substance that can be used to produce amphetamines.
Carey fled to Las Vegas for time out after he was caught, while married to his former wife Sally, having an affair with teammate Anthony Stevens' wife Kelli in 2002.
In October, 2004 Carey spent time in a Las Vegas lock-up over a further alleged outburst of violence.
In 2006, Ms Neilson ran into a South African wilderness full of lions and leopards after a fight with Carey in the back seat of a safari vehicle.
Ms Neilson became so upset that she ran from the car and into a dangerous stretch of Kruger National Park.
Carey stayed in the car as a park ranger chased after Neilson at the Mala Mala game reserve - touted as the best place to see ferocious big cats.
