More than 500 potential recruits recently experienced a day in the life of a police officer in Townsville as the Queensland Police Service works to bolster its ranks.
Demonstrations from specialist units, including the dog squad and tactic crime squad, were some of the highlights of the Queensland Police Service open day in Townsville on Saturday.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Wheeler said the event — which attracted a crowd of more than 500 — was a great opportunity for the public to get a closer look at what the recruit program at North Queensland Police Academy has to offer.
It comes as Queensland recently waived police recruit testing fees in a bid to attract more people to the force.
The state government is making the $215 entry test and $20 physical fitness test free until April 30, 2023.
“There’s never been a better time to join,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Wheeler said.
“The best part about being an officer in the Queensland Police Service is the opportunities that are offered to everyone statewide.
“There are literally hundreds of careers within one career — whether you want to be in the dog squad or whether up on the water with the water police or under it with the dive squad, you could be in forensics, digital evidence, a prosecutor or many other roles on offer.
“If you’ve been thinking about a career with us and weren’t able to make it to the open day you can always head to our website at www.policerecruit.qld.gov.au.”
