A woman has died after being hit by a car in Charters Towers in the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian to happen in less than 24 hours.

Police said early information indicates a 49-year-old man was driving along Bluff Road, Millchester when the car struck a pedestrian sitting in the road at about 9.40pm on Saturday.

The pedestrian — a 30-year-old woman — sadly died at the scene.

The driver, who was not physically injured, is assisting police with their inquiries.

The tragic incident comes after a male pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Mount Isa at about 1.20am on Saturday.

The pedestrian — a 30-year-old Healy man — was struck by a vehicle travelling along Moore Crescent, Mornington.

He sustained significant injuries and tragically died at the scene.

Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

It brings an end to what has been a horror week on NQ roads after Logan father Michael Riggs, 34, died in hospital on Thursday after being hit by a car in Kelso last Sunday.

His pregnant partner Tiarna Rade said his sudden death had been utterly “devestating.”
