North Queensland police have released details about a man critically injured in a horror accident on the Flinders Highway south of Townsville.
Townsville Police said an Audi A5 left the road and collided with a tree on the Flinders Highway near Skydiver Road at 8.40am.
“A 25-year-old male from Southern Cross (Charters Towers) was transported to Townsville University Hospital in a serious condition.”
Townsville Health and Hospital Service have upgraded the man’s condition to critical.
Queensland Police Service said multiple emergency crews were called to the single-vehicle accident at Woodstock on the Flinders Highway at 8.40am.
A QPS spokeswoman said at the time that the victim was in a serious condition after their vehicle left the highway near Skydiver Road.
The man was trapped in the vehicle before he was freed from the wreckage of the vehicle.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service and Queensland Ambulance Service crews also responded to the single-vehicle accident.
QAS, in an update, said a patient had been freed and transported to Townsville University Hospital in a serious condition suffering head and leg injuries.
The highway was closed from 9.15am to 12.30pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses or dashcam.
