Three men on the run after escape from Nhulunbuy jail

Police are calling for information after three prisoners escaped from a remote Northern Territory facility.

January 19, 2pm: Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to three men who escaped from custody in Nhulunbuy.

At 10.40pm on Saturday, NT Corrections reported to police that two 30-year-olds had escaped from the Datjala Work Camp facility on Bottlebrush Avenue sometime after 9pm.

About 8.45am on Sunday, Corrections reported to police that a third prisoner, aged 34, had also escaped the facility between 9pm and 11pm on Saturday.

Additional police resources have been deployed to the area, and investigations are ongoing.

While police do not believe the individuals pose a risk to the general public, members of the community are advised not to approach them.

According to the government website, Datjala Work Camp accommodates up to 50 open-security male prisoners who have been sentenced or are on remand.

No sex offenders or prisoners of public interest are considered for placement.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference number P25018765, or to report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
