January 19, 9am: A woman seeking help in a police station was allegedly dragged out by her partner in a domestic violence attack that involved an officer being pushed.
At 11.50pm on Saturday, the 31-year-old woman went to the front counter of the Alice Springs Police Station seeking refuge from her partner.
Shortly after, the 32-year-old man entered the police station and allegedly pulled her outside, where he assaulted her multiple times before fleeing as police intervened.
Officers chased the alleged offender on foot to a nearby carpark and arrested him.
During the arrest, the man allegedly pushed one of the officers and attempted to pull them to the ground.
The officer drew his taser, at which point the man surrendered without further incident.
The taser was not deployed.
The man remains in police custody, and is expected to be charged.
The woman was treated at the scene for minor facial injuries.
Acting Commander Michael Budge said the man’s alleged actions were “despicable”.
“The assaults against the victim and the arresting officers are completely unacceptable, and we maintain a zero-tolerance approach to this type of violence,” he said.
“I want to commend the officers involved for their swift and efficient intervention, as well as their professionalism in handling this incident.
