More apartments could be added to a Hobart hotel in the heart of the CBD.

A development application has been lodged to create more accommodation at the Vibe Hotel by changing the use of the first four levels of the building from office space to serviced apartments.

The four-star hotel, which opened in late 2020, has 135 regular hotel rooms and seven apartments.

Levels 1-4 have previously been used as medical offices.

The apartments would be used for short term accommodation.

“It is considered that the proposed serviced apartments that are anticipated to be occupied for short periods of 2-3 days at a time will provide reasonable levels of amenity, comparable with the other hotel suites on the site and the seven existing serviced apartments on Level 14,” the plans said.

“The serviced apartments will therefore not involve the presence of people for extended periods.”

Some of the apartments will include balcony space.

“The proposed serviced apartments include seven apartments on Level 4 that will have access to a private open space area terrace on the Argyle Street frontage,” the plans said.

“All other apartments will not have private open space.”

The plans are currently being publicly advertised and are open for public comment until October 15.
