Another Greens candidate will take over for the vacant position on the Huon Valley Council (HVC), with Cygnet’s Lukas Mrosek elected as councillor on Monday.

Following the resignation of Councillor Jenny Cambers-Smith earlier this month, the Tasmanian Electoral Commission conducted the recount from the six candidates who nominated to contest, with Mr Mrosek to serve until the ordinary 2026 election.

HVC Mayor Sally Doyle congratulated Mr Mrosek on his appointment and welcomed him to council on Monday.

Polish-born Mr Mrosek lives with his wife and two sons in the Huon Valley where he works as a building designer.

When Mr Mrosek previously stood for the 2022 Local Government elections, he highlighted housing insecurity and council planning processes as of significant focus if elected.

Mr Mrosek will be officially sworn in later this week and attend his first ordinary meeting of council on Wednesday August 28, 2024.
