Another Huon Valley councillor resigns, second in six months
Another Huon Valley councillor announced on Thursday that she will step down from her role just two years into her four-year term.

Huon Valley Council has been hit by another councillor departure, with Jenny Cambers-Smith announcing her resignation on Thursday
It comes after Councillor Cathy Temby’s resignation for ‘family reasons’ six months ago and General Manager Jason Browne stepping down in October last year after just two years in the role.
The Greens councillor shared the news online on Friday, with many sharing their support for the councillor who was elected in October 2022.
“I’m sorry to all those who voted for me or share similar views to me, I know I’m letting you down,” she wrote in a social media post.
“I did what I could over the past nearly two years, but I’ve finally had to let something go for the sake of my family, our land and my own health.”
Ms Cambers-Smith said she still cares “passionately” for the Huon Valley region, encouraging others to consider local government.
“I’m really confident that the leadership at council, and all staff, have the best interests of the Huon at heart,” she said.
“Local Government is a tough gig but I’d encourage anyone with integrity and passion, to put your hand up to serve, if only for a limited period.
“Politics at all levels, needs wise and compassionate people from all backgrounds.”
Huon Valley Council Mayor Sally Doyle thanked Ms Cambers-Smith for her service.
“On behalf of the community, fellow Councillors and Council staff I want to thank Jenny for her diligence as a Councillor and her representation of community and environmental values that often inspired debate and positive change,” she said.
“Jenny’s particular passion for climate change, conservation, housing affordability and land use was observed and admired by many in our community.
“We wish Jenny all the best for the future and we now look forward to welcoming a new councillor following the Tasmanian Electoral Commission recount process.”
A Tasmanian Electoral Commission spokesman said the commission had been notified of the resignation and would announce when results from a recount would be provided.
