Federal funding package designed to fix some of Tasmania’s worst road crash hot spots

More than a dozen dangerous crash spots across Tasmania are set for a cash injection in an attempt to make the roads safer. Check out the list of black spots near you. SEE THE LIST >>

Government commits further $15b national infrastructure programs

THIRTEEN dangerous crash sites across Tasmania will receive close to $3m in funding under a federal government black spot program.

The state will receive $2.7m as part of the program’s 2021-22 funding round, with councils contributing a further $336,690 to the projects.

Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport Scott Buchholz said the projects would make a contribution towards reducing serious injuries and deaths on Tasmanian roads.

Federal Braddon MP Gavin Pearce, also chair of a Tasmanian black spot consultative panel, said the investment would deliver safer roads in local government areas across the state.

Mr Pearce said black spot projects were found to have reduced the number of crashes causing death and injury by 30 per cent on average.

“The high-priority locations we are funding have seen a total of three fatal and 21 crashes causing injuries recorded over the past five years,’’ he said.
