With their fake fins at the ready, 36 junior musical theatre students are preparing to bring a much-loved children’s tale to the stage.
From November 1 to 10, the Musical Theatre Crew will dive into a vibrant underwater world full of family, friendship, and adventure with the musical adaptation of the 2003 Disney Pixar movie Finding Nemo.
Held at the Peacock Theatre, the one-hour show will feature music by the award-winning songwriting team of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, including songs “Just Keep Swimming”, “Fish Are Friends Not Food” and “Go With the Flow”.
Musical Theatre Crew producer and director Leiz Moore said the performance would be a great showcase for the company’s younger intake.
“We have our Junior Crew aged 6 to 13 years old taking to the stage for this production, and they just love it,” she said.
“They love theatre. They love singing, dancing, acting, and creating scenes.
“And they have put it all together into a story that’s coherent and entertaining. They really are the theatre stars of the future.”
Mrs Moore said the show features a colourful collection of costumes that bring the underwater adventure to life.
“Our award-winning costume and prop creator, Helen Cronin, has worked tirelessly to create an ocean of characters,” she said.
“We’ve also had a team of mums assisting with sewing, and it’s just been a real team effort.”
The Musical Theatre Crew’s production of Finding Nemo Junior runs across eight shows from November 1 to 10 at the Peacock Theatre at Hobart’s Salamanca Place.
