TWO sets of twins who met as toddlers are celebrating being named among the brightest teens in Victoria.

There must have been something in the water at the Northcote mothers’ group where identical twins Mira and Lucy Tonkin and twins Bill and Ted Clayton met in the early 2000s.

The four 18-year-olds have been revealed among 20,000 others with a study score over 40 in a special keepsake in today’s Herald Sun.

Lucy admitted it was strange to have met the Clayton boys as toddlers, go through high school together and then finish with similar ATARs.

“It’s crazy,” she said. “We have talked about it a bit.”

Mira and Lucy even got the exact same study score for English, 44.

“We worked really hard, we made big posters together and tested each other on quotes,” Mira said.

When the twins needed a break, it was off to the basketball court for a few one-on-one challenges.

“I didn’t think it would be as close as it was,” said Ted said the brothers’ ATARs.

While Bill took out the higher ATAR, Ted won the competition of the top score, achieving a perfect 50 in Australian History.

“He still got me on the ATAR, but I got one up on something,” Ted laughed.

Northcote High School principal Kate Morris said the students were “a credit to themselves”, adding: “They really put in a consistent effort throughout school.”

Minister for Education James Merlino congratulated the high achievers for 2017.

“Your hard work has definitely paid off and you have achieved a world-class level of excellence,” he said.

“Your teachers, friends and family I’m sure share in your success.”
