Nine out of 10 graduates from Victorian universities are working full-time three years after finishing their studies, new figures show.

Australian Catholic University, Deakin, Monash and Swinburne had the highest success rates of graduates scoring full-time jobs — between 91 and 92 per cent.

La Trobe, Federation, Melbourne and RMIT were all between 87 and 89 per cent, while Victoria University had 81 per cent.

Dentistry students had the best employment prospects, with 99 per cent of graduates in work, followed by medicine, 98 per cent, rehabilitation, 98 per cent, veterinary science, 96 per cent, engineering, 95 per cent, and law, 95 per cent.

Data from the 2019 Graduate Outcomes Survey, released today, said the national figure of graduates finding full-time work three years after finishing was 90 per cent.

The report said when that same 2016 cohort of graduates were interviewed four months after finishing, 72.6 per cent were in full-time employment.

Federal education minister Dan Tehan said the findings showed the importance of higher education to finding jobs.

“Universities are a key driver of job creation, job growth, and productivity improvements in this nation,” he said.
