Schools are going to great lengths to support parents upset about sending their babies off for the first day of Foundation.
At St Clare’s Primary in Officer, a “tea and tissues” station will be set up for those overwhelmed by the big day.
The school, which welcomes its greatest number of Foundation twins — four sets in total — is ready to support mums and dads. “It’s so parents can be together,” deputy principal Rebecca Kollaris said.

It’s not the only special measure the school in Melbourne’s southeast will have when it resumes at the end of the month.
A red carpet will be rolled out for the stars of the day — the new Foundation students — who will also get a little St Clare’s medal to welcome them to school.
The first day is set to be a breeze for twins Jett and Lucas, Stephen and Mairead, Jacob and Holly, and Kristian and Kieran.
Not only will they be joined in class by their brother or sister, but they’ve already watched the older kids do it all before. A metal fence is the only thing that separates the eight children, who went to kindergarten together right next door from the school kids’ playground.
Mairead admitted she had been a bit scared to start school, despite going with her brother, Stephen.
She was sad to leave behind her favourite kindergarten teacher. “But we can see her whenever we like, through the fence,” the five-year-old said.
“I’ve got my friends — now I’m happy. I’m not scared any more.”
There’s one particular thing Kieran, joined by his brother Kristian, is looking forward to about starting school.
“Soccer,” he said with a grin.
“I like playing sports.”
