Walford principal Dr Deborah Netolicky said the building is the “literal and symbolic heart” of the school’s middle and senior campus.

“The transformation of this iconic building into modern learning spaces for future Walford students marks an exciting chapter in the growth of Walford,” Dr Netolicky said.

The building currently houses an art studio, archives and private lesson space.

Mabel Jewell Baker House has previously been used as a principal’s residence and boarding house.

The exact cost of the works has not yet been released and the renovated building is set to be open to students in 2026.

This latest project follows the upgrade of the school’s design and technology centre, science centre and its junior school playground from 2023 to early 2024.
