A top Adelaide private girls’ school is set to redevelop one of its most historic buildings to provide more classrooms in a multimillion-dollar project.
Walford Anglican School for Girls in Hyde Park is set to renovate its more than 100-year-old Mabel Jewell Baker House with four new classrooms.
Walford principal Dr Deborah Netolicky said the building is the “literal and symbolic heart” of the school’s middle and senior campus.
“The transformation of this iconic building into modern learning spaces for future Walford students marks an exciting chapter in the growth of Walford,” Dr Netolicky said.
The building currently houses an art studio, archives and private lesson space.
Mabel Jewell Baker House has previously been used as a principal’s residence and boarding house.
The school has partnered with Matthews Architects to develop the project.
The exact cost of the works has not yet been released and the renovated building is set to be open to students in 2026.
This latest project follows the upgrade of the school’s design and technology centre, science centre and its junior school playground from 2023 to early 2024.
