A decade after Jason De Ieso was gunned down at work, his relieved family members have spoken of their ongoing trauma they have endured for the “despicable” murder of the “cherished” panel beater.

Seven men were found guilty of Mr De Ieso’s November 2012 murder after deliberating for 30.5 hours across six days to conclude the five-month long trial.

The men found guilty of murder are: brothers Husain Alzuain, 36, of Goodwood, Mohamed Alzuain, 32, of Mile End and Musa Ali Alzuain, 30, of St Morris, along with Daniel Mark Jalleh, 34, of Clovelly Park, Ross William Montgomery, 38, of Andrews Farm, Kyle Lloyd Pryde, 35, of Adelaide and Nicholas Sianis, 36, of Beverley.

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on Seywan Moradi, 36, of Walkley Heights, who pleaded not guilty.

Outside court, after the verdicts were delivered, Jason’s brother, Dino De Ieso, tearfully read a statement on their behalf and said his brother would “always be in our hearts, always cherished, never forgotten”.

“Jason De Ieso. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father to be, a friend to many who went to his workplace on the 21st November 2012 and never returned home to loved ones,” he said.

“He was an innocent man going about his business and he had his life cut short by a cowardly and despicable inhumane act.

“Was his crime going to work that day doing what he loved? Noone should feel unsafe when attending their place of work.”

He said the events of that day had an enduring impact on those who knew and loved his 33-year-old brother.

“The scenes and events of that day have changed our lives and the lives of many,” he said. “All the staff who attended work that day have been left physically and mentally scarred.

“What they witnessed was unimaginable.

“Though none of the guilty have shown any remorse, may they one day know the actions they all undertook were uncalled for.

“Yes the events of the night before would be enough to make any family distraught, but understand this: Jason was innocent and had absolutely nothing to do with any of the events mentioned in this trial, nor was he a member of any motorcycle group.”

He said he hoped the justice system would “continue to seek answers and prosecute” the accused man for which the jury was unable to reach a verdict.

“The ordeal has been mentally and physically challenging as I am sure it has been for the family of the offenders.

“No family should need to endure such grief, pain or loss. Our lives have changed forever.

“To have lost Jason the way we did is something you never wish to live. Jason, you will always be in our hearts, always cherished, never forgotten.

“Your infectious smile, humour, kindness and connection you had with all was unique. May you finally now rest in peace.”

He also extended a “special thanks and gratitude” towards the SA Police Major Crime team for their “ongoing efforts, support and endless hours that they have dedicated to solving this case”.

He also thanked the tireless work of prosecutors, and witnesses for their courage to give evidence and victim contact officer Debbie Gibson and her support throughout the ongoing ordeal.

Dino De Ieso then asked that his family’s privacy be respected.
