A 21-year-old Hectorville man has been arrested following the horror collision that killed a pedestrian in Tranmere last week.

A 53-year-old woman was struck by a silver Honda sedan opposite Kmart at Firle Plaza, near Richardson Ave just before 6am on Friday morning.

CCTV footage shows the woman with an umbrella walking across an empty car park before attempting to cross the road.

Despite stopping to check for oncoming traffic, a vehicle struck the woman within seconds, throwing her about 50m down the main road. Sadly, she died at the scene.

On Thursday, the 21-year-old Hectorville driver of the Honda was arrested and charged by SA Police with causing death by dangerous driving.

The driver and his 24-year-old passenger were not injured in the collision, although the driver was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

“He was going to work and the lady just came out of nowhere in front of him,” a friend of the driver at the scene said.

“He hit her and called the police and now they are doing the investigation.”

The 21-year-old has been granted bail and is due to appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 15.
