Crows star Darcy Fogarty has blasted Saints midfielder Jack Higgins for expressing his dislike of Adelaide following the Victorian side’s victory over Port on Sunday.
“If he doesn’t like it, then I reckon he can bugger off pretty quick,” Fogarty said.
In a post-match interview with former AFLW star Erin Phillips, Higgins was asked if he had any plans for his week in Adelaide.
“Ah no, I don’t like Adelaide so I’ll probably be in my room playing Call of Duty with the boys,” Higgins responded.
The moment quickly went viral with South Australians calling out Higgins’ remark in the lead up to Gather Round this week.
“He must not have spent too much time here, there’s so much to offer,” Fogarty said on Monday.
“You can go the Barossa, you can go down south, you can come to (Coopers Brewery) … and have a good time.
“There’s plenty to do so if he leaves his room, he’ll find something to do.”
Premier Peter Malinauskas also shared his surprisingly understated take on the footy faux pas during a press conference launching South Australia’s latest tourism campaign.
“There used to be a time when we would get defensive and uppity about these sorts of comments but I think we’ve moved beyond that,” Mr Malinauskas said.
“In South Australia I think people feel really comfortable about the fact we’ve got pride in our state, and we’ve got lots to offer and we know that more and more people are coming over to enjoy it.
“My only recommendation to Jack is that playing Call of Duty in a hotel room, that’s not my cup of tea, I would be more inclined if I was him to get out and about and see a few things.”
The Premier even teased that the tourism department would be willing to show Higgins Adelaide’s many highlights if he can “prise himself away from his gaming console”.
