Greek dessert bar chain Lukoumades closes its final shop on King William Rd, Hyde Park, effective immediately
The owners of a popular chain of Greek dessert bars have closed their last bricks-and-mortar store – but fans will still be able to enjoy their sweet treats.

The owners of a popular chain of Greek dessert bars have closed their last bricks-and-mortar store – but fans will still be able to enjoy their sweet treats.
Lukoumades, on King William Rd, Hyde Park, has permanently shut its doors, seven years after it became the Greek doughnut shop’s first location.
Its owners confirmed the sad news in a post on social media, thanking their customers for their loyalty since opening their first dessert bar in 2017.
“It’s been a great seven years filled with highs and lows,” the post said.
“However, we have made a difficult decision and have decided that our time has come to an end at Hyde Park.
“This is affective (sic) immediately.
“We want to express our gratitude to you all for supporting us.”
The post went on to say that the Lukoumades dessert truck would continue to be operating at “as many events as possible, bringing you all our famous Greek sweets”.
Lukoumades previously also had stores on Seaview Rd at Henley Beach, which closed in January, plus The Parade, Norwood, and on Magill Rd, in Kensington Park.
The shop specialised in lukoumades, a Greek version of a doughnut, made in bite-sized balls, that are fluffy and fried until golden brown.
They are traditionally soaked in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. Some are garnished with chopped nuts or toasted sesame seeds.
The doughnut balls were sold with a variety of toppings including ice cream and chocolate sauce.
In January 2020, their Henley Beach store was destroyed in an arson attack, which police believed at the time was deliberately lit.
More than 40 firefighters battled the inferno which caused about $300,000 damage.
The shop would re-open later that year, before closing in January.
