Adelaide OnlyFans creator's shock $172,000 bill

An Adelaide OnlyFans creator has been slammed with an extraordinary tax bill after new rules were put in place.

Gabby Goessling posted a TikTok for her almost 100,000 followers explaining that she has been forced to pay a goods and services tax (GST) bill of $172,000.

“The annoying part is that I have already paid so much tax,” she said.

“This is actually a GST bill so another 10 per cent on top of everything that I’ve already paid.

“People always misinterpret what I say and say that I’m complaining so I just want to make it clear that I’m not complaining at all. It’s the law. It’s fine.”

The Adelaide creator said that it had been “ruled that OF creators have to pay GST on their Australian subscribers”.

Gabby commented “it’s such a pain” in reply to famous Only Fans creator and influencer Mikaela Testa’s question asking how it’s possible to calculate funds from Australian subscribers.

“I’ve only had to back pay the last two to three years though I think,” Gabby wrote.

“My accountant got me to email and request the stats, I’ll message you the deets (sic).”

One TikToker commented that Gabby was “making bank” to which she responded: “After tax, GST and my mortgage and bills it seriously feels like it’s all gone – I’m so lucky though I literally pinch myself every day”.

Starting when she was aged 21, Gabby now owns multiple homes that she said she “never would have been able to buy” without OnlyFans.

Gabby said at the end of her TikTok that the GST bill had inspired her to “tap into the US or UK market or anywhere in the world”.

“I need some international people that I don’t have to pay GST on because that would be really nice,” she said.

“So if you randomly, like know a British song or something like that, that I can do a TikTok to try and reach these people cause I need to get.”

An Australian Tax Office spokesperson said the GST obligations for Australian content creators that supply digital products and services has not changed.

“The tax implications for Australian content creators of income earnt, including through online platforms such as OnlyFans, is the same as for any other taxpayer,” they said.

“Income earnt is taxable, regardless of the form in which it is given to you and GST is payable on taxable sales you make once you are registered or required to be registered for GST.

“Australian content creators need to register for GST if they exceed or expect to meet the GST turnover threshold of $75,000 per year including GST-free sales made to offshore subscribers.”

The spokesperson said that online platforms, such as OnlyFans, are required to report data to the ATO on payments given to Australian content creators as a means to identify people who are under-reporting their income.
