Adelaide Airport baggage system electrical fault to cause flight delays

An electrical fault that gripped Adelaide Airport on Friday morning has been sorted – but delays may carry on.

An electrical fault at the Adelaide Airport which caused delays for departing flights has been fixed but the airport in warning of potential residual minor delays.

The fault occurred at 7am on Friday and resulted in the shutdown of the main baggage handling system.

An Adelaide Airport spokesman told The Advertiser the main baggage handling system was still down as of 9am but an update just after 9.30am confirmed the system was now back up and running.

Passengers have been forced to use the oversize baggage drop owing to the electrical fault at Adelaide Airport.

“We anticipate there may be some residual minor delays and we recommend customers check with their airline for the latest flight information,” an airport spokesman said.

“Adelaide Airport again thanks our customers for their patience and understanding and we apologise for this morning’s disruption.”

The issue had caused baggage to be processed in the oversized baggage areas at each end of the check-in hall.

It comes as hundreds of Qantas staff members were set to walk off the job at airports across the country this morning, including in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Hobart.

However, so far no Adelaide flights have been affected by the action.
