An oceanfront Mediterranean-inspired mansion with celebrity vibes is one of the newest Queensland destinations available for wedding bookings.
The multimillion-dollar, three-level property, which boasts its own private marina and helipad, can now hold weddings, birthday parties and other special events for up to 80 guests and 10 staff after an application was approved by the Whitsundays council.
The designated outdoors 230sq m venue space sits beside an existing seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home which documents state will be available for the host to let for their function.
A short 10-minute flight from Hamilton Island’s airport, the property, which also has an infinity pool, cinema, gym, and pool room fronts the Coral Sea at 4/383 Mandalay Rd in Mandalay.
The impressive estate took more than three years to build, with materials imported from overseas to create the vision of architect Andrew Simpson.
Documents state run times for functions will be limited from 7am to midnight, only licensed off-site caterers will be able to supply food and beverages, and private security will be on hand to manage traffic and any potential issues.
But if turquoise seas aren’t on your wedding vision board, perhaps the proposal for a new ceremony venue with horses and cattle to add that rural charm to your keepsake photos may be more your vibe.
Wedding celebrant Karen Beckham and her husband Garry have lodged plans with Mackay Regional Council to open a function facility at their almost 22ha property in Homebush, about a 25-minute drive from the Mackay CBD.
If the Beckhams’ application is approved, they will be able to host outdoor wedding ceremonies within an area of about 200 sqm on their 255 Palm Tree Rd property, which is primarily used for grazing with horses and cattle.
“The proposal is for a wedding ceremony and photographic venue only … an average wedding ceremony and photographic function is approximately 1-2 hours,” the application states, adding there are no plans for new buildings or structures.
They further state the proposal is “relatively minor in scale”, will not take away from the property’s productive capacity, and it takes “advantage of the unique scenic bushland on the site”.
The Beckhams will direct guests to a designated parking spot area via an existing gravel access road on the property, with Porta Loos to be hired if and when needed for functions.
