A huge fire, which covers a space equivalent to 50 MCGs, is raging in the Southern Downs.

More than 20 fire crews are working to extinguish a blaze which has been burning for three days, less than 30km from Warwick.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said crews started battling the vegetation fire at Greymare on October 31.

However, three days later, on November 2, there were still 23 crews on scene.

The QFD spokesman said the fire had been burning within containment lines, and crews on the ground on Saturday were prioritising bolstering those, while also working to extinguish it using ground and air units.

He said flames were up to four metres tall in sections, and the fire covered an area of between 800 to 1000 hectares, which is about equivalent to 50 MCGs.
