A shocked family has described the traumatic moment another family was forever changed after a crash which claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl.

It comes after her 17-year-old sister and 48-year-old mother were also hurt when the BMW all three were travelling in rolled on Edwards St, Sunshine Beach on Friday night.

Speaking to this publication on Saturday, local parents Lisa and Cameron, who had lived in Edwards St for 17 years, said they were driving back to their home when they saw all the emergency crews and feared it was one of their own teenage daughters who had crashed.

They soon realised that while their girls, aged 17 and 18, were physically unharmed, they were shaken by what happened just outside.

The teens were home with one of their friends at the time and recalled hearing multiple, loud “bangs.”

“The house shook,” they said.

At first, they weren’t sure what to make of it until they described hearing a “bloodcurdling scream”.

The teens rushed outside to see the devastation and two young girls around their age lying on the ground beside the car.

The youngest of the two wasn’t moving with the older girl in clear pain with visible lower injuries.

“Her legs were covered in blood,” one of the teen witnesses said.

Lisa said the visiting friend was “really traumatised” by the scenes, as were her two daughters who had tried to help the female driver on the roadside.

“The (woman) was sitting there in the gutter, the girls gave her water and a bucket and a towel, but she seemed like she was in total shock,” Lisa said.

“She hit the parked car down the street and it took the wheel completely off and the car rolled here.”

The family also recalled seeing a man at the scene who was speaking to the shocked driver.

“The cop told him that the child was dead, and he fell to his knees,” Lisa said, explaining it took authorities “a long time” before they removed the 15-year-old girl’s body from the scene.

“I walked up to look at the car and she was still there at 11pm,” Lisa said.

Lisa and her daughters went out in the morning to place some flowers at the scene.

“Because she passed here, I just wanted to honour her.”

Lisa, Cameron, along with other neighbours, all described how dangerous the 60km zone street had become.

One couple who lived further down the street became emotional as they described the scene.

“We’re rattled, we didn’t sleep last night,” the man said.

“I’ve got no idea how this happened, but the number of cars and motorbikes speeding down this road is out of control,” the woman added.

“Something needs to be done.”

The mother and daughters, all from Peregian Beach, were travelling in a BMW X5 when the crash happened about 6.50pm Friday.

The 15-year-old girl suffered critical injuries and sadly, died at the scene.

Neighbours say the street where the crash happened has become increasingly dangerous.

The 17-year-old girl was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment while the woman, who was driving the car, was also taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash caused delays for several hours and a diversion was in place for traffic heading north along Edwards St and David Low Way towards Noosa Heads.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and appealing to anyone who may have information that could help to come forward.

More to come.
