Time is running out for shoppers to stock up at their favourite fashion brands after it was confirmed that Townsville’s remaining Noni B’s and Millers stores would be closed down.
The sad news follows the dramatic collapse of retail giant Mosaic Brands, the owner of brands including Millers, Rivers, Katies, Noni B and Autograph, which went into voluntary administration in October 2024.
Despite the best efforts of receivers KPMG and voluntary administrators FTI Consulting to sell the remaining brands within the Mosaic portfolio, an announcement was made on Wednesday to shutter the remaining fashion brands by mid-April.
The wind down of Noni B and Millers will result in the closure of 252 stores (including 11 in New Zealand) and will directly impact 933 employees.
In Townsville, Noni B’s store at the Willows Shopping Centre has already closed, while the store at Castletown Shopping Centre was continuing to trade.
Three local Millers stores at The Intersection Shopping Centre (formerly Kmart), Castletown, and Willows, are all continuing to trade at this stage.
Staff at two of the Millers stores were tight lipped about when they would close, but an employee at the Willows store confirmed that they were informed a fortnight ago that their last trading day was February 12.
This follows previous announcements regarding the recent closure of the Katies and Rivers brands by mid-April.
Townsville’s Rivers Mega Store has launched its closing down sale, Katies at the Townsville Shopping Centre was still trading, the Castletown store was due to close on February 15, while Willows centre management confirmed that their Katies store had exited on Tuesday.
Receivers were yet to confirm how many Townsville workers would lose their jobs as a result of the closures.
KPMG partner David Hardy said they were unable to achieve a sale of any of the brands within the Mosaic portfolio, resulting in the wind down of all of the stores in the Mosaic Brands Group over the coming months.
“We expect all stores will be closed by mid-April,” Mr Hardy said.
“The receivers would again like to acknowledge and thank the Mosaic management team, employees, customers and suppliers for their support throughout the receivership process”.
The exact timing of individual store closures will vary and be dependent on stock levels and sell through.
Sale events and promotions will be run in all stores and the receivers encourage customers to visit their local store or the eCommerce site while stocks last.
