RADIO broadcaster Ray Hadley has broken down over his police constable son’s drug arrest today, saying “I feel particularly inadequate as a father”.

Last night Daniel Hadley, 28, was allegedly arrested in possession of 0.79 of a gram of cocaine worth about $200.

“When I was first told I was angry and perplexed,” Hadley said today.

“I had no idea my son, a respected police officer, would be involved in such a matter.”

Fighting back tears, the 2GB host said his eldest child was battling a mental health condition.

“The serious nature of his illness is such that he’s been admitted to a clinic immediately,” Hadley said.

“Daniel accepts responsibility for his behaviour but unfortunately is not in control of his mental health.

“I now know how many parents feel when they think things are okay when they’re not.”

It has been revealed Daniel Hadley was allegedly caught buying cocaine from a dealer in the carpark of a north west Sydney pub.

The 28-year-old was at the Australian Hotel and Brewery at Rouse Hill when the off-duty officer was arrested and charged with possession of the drug.

Earlier today, Ray Hadley apologised for not going on air today for his Continuous Call Team show.

Colleague Mark Levy apologised to listeners on his behalf sighting “family matters”.

Daniel Hadley, a senior constable, has been under surveillance from officers from the Professional Standards Command investigating whether he is involved with prohibited drugs.

NSW Police is now reviewing the 28-year-old’s future with the force and Hadley has been granted conditional bail. He will appear at Parramatta Local Court on September 12.

Not long after Hadley was arrested last night, another man was arrested in a nearby car and charged with supply and possession of drugs.

When his son — who he regards as his golden boy — joined the NSW Police in 2012, the 63-year-old was reduced to tears.

At the ceremony in Goulburn, Hadley said: “I knew it would be emotional but it doesn’t prepare you for what happens when they throw their caps in the air. I’m very proud of him.”

Ray and his son were engulfed in an AVO scandal in 2014 involving former wife and stepmum Suzanne Hadley.

She lodged an apprehended violence order against her former husband and the young Hadley but she later withdrew her complaint.
