A massive rainband is sweeping across eastern Australia which will cover large parts of Queensland into the weekend.
Parts of western Queensland are already receiving moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy falls, as the system moves east.
The rain is expected to impact southern and central Queensland through to late Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the system is expected to move over southeast Queensland on Thursday evening and finish further north, around Capricornia, by Saturday evening.
Predicted falls across the state will be moderate, with estimates around 10-20mm with potential for locally isolated rainfall around 40mm, and has already impacted towns in the west, from Mt Isa, through to regions including Marrano and Warrego, and the Darling Downs.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Meteorology said the most intense falls will be on Saturday morning.
“As Queenslanders wake up on Saturday that will be the biggest day, and it will clear off later as it heads north that afternoon” he said.
A deep low pressure system in the Bight & associated cold front is tapping into tropical moisture, producing a band of rain & isolated #thunderstorms for much of eastern Australia over the next 3 days.

“As it marches across the state it will leave around 10-20mm in its wake” he said.
The Bureau said once the rainband clears, cool south westerly winds will come through early next week before more mild and typical conditions replace it.
“We will have some cooler dry air, the type most associated with cracked lips and creaking washing lines for a few days, before we return to a more typical Queensland winter” he said.
