Police probe fatal motorcycle crash at Sunshine Beach in Noosa

A man has been charged after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on a busy Sunshine Coast road.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were called about 11.45pm yesterday, April 14, to Ben Lexcen Dr and Eenie Creek Rd near the St Thomas More Catholic Primary School and Noosa Aquatic Centre traffic lights at Sunshine Beach.
Police were also called to the crash between a silver Kia Cerato and a Kawasaki motorcycle.
They said the rider of the motorcycle, a 55-year-old Nambour man, was declared dead at the crash.
Police have charged the driver and only person in the Kia, a 45-year-old Noosa Heads man, with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
He is due to appear in Noosa Magistrates Court on May 5.
An entire stretch of Eenie Creek Rd between the sports ground roundabout and the traffic lights by the school was closed off as the Sunshine Coast forensic crash unit conducted its investigation.
The motorcycle was surrounded by debris in the lane heading away from the traffic lights with police tape marking off areas.
Police also sent a drone up to survey the crash.
The forensic crash unit is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

This latest crash comes after another New South Wales driver was charged following a serious crash that killed 70-year-old motorcyclist in Kidaman Creek last week.
The crash happened at the intersection of Hunsley and Obi Obi roads just before 3pm on Thursday, April 10.
The 54-year-old Holden driver was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and is scheduled to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 13.
A man was also significantly injured in another crash between a motorcycle and a car on a Maroochydore street on April 10.
Emergency crews were called to the incident on Ball St and Anzac Ave.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a Mazda CX-3 collided with a Harley Davidson XI1200.
A 47-year-old Maroochydore man was treated for “significant” lower leg injuries and transported in a stable condition to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
