Police investigating after woman badly burned in fire at Roadrunner Caravan Park, Loftville at Lismore NSW

Police have launched an investigation after a cabin caught fire at a northern NSW tourist park, with a woman suffering severe burns to most of her body. Here’s what we know.

Police have launched an investigation after a cabin caught fire at a northern NSW tourist park, with a woman suffering severe burns to most of her body.

Shortly after 10.30am on Friday, police and emergency services were tasked to Roadrunner Caravan Park at 61 Caniaba Rd, Loftville at Lismore after a fire was called in.

The caravan park is about five kilometres south of the regional hub’s CBD.

A woman in her 60s suffered severe burns to 70 per cent of her body and was treated by paramedics at the scene, a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

Initial reports suggest the woman was pulled from the burning cabin, which was earlier thought to be a caravan.

The woman was rushed to Lismore Base Hospital and then flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the victim suffered severe burns to her face, torso arms and legs.

Firefighters attended, but it’s not yet clear how long it took to extinguish the blaze, or how the fire started.

More information is being sought from Fire and Rescue NSW.

When contacted by NewsLocal, Roadrunner Caravan Park management declined to provide comment.

The popular tourist park is situated on 22 acres and includes powered caravan sites, cabins and a number of residential dwellings.

Police have set up a crime scene and detectives have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the blaze.
